Darkness and Light
And somehow dog training.
April was incredible for the amount of pain and darkness I went through in a week. Which is probably why it has taken me a three weeks to post on here another lighthearted recap of my monetary treasure hunts. Everything (more or less) is shining again so no worries.
Sorry for the blurry photo, it is dark in my spa room. Someone left a nice tip on the disheveled spa table but also an unintended dime gift on the floor. I am not sure yet what my future venue or establishment will be, because there are some variables not entirely within my control, but I think my ideal is a quiet little place close to home that has blackout shutters if the client prefers dark, an outdoor walled garden if they prefer outdoors, and windows to let in the light otherwise. Spending 6-8 hours of the daylight in a dark room cannot be healthy for the massage therapist. It is fine for the clients because they are only there for the equivalent of a naptime they desperately need. I personally have only had craniosacral therapy done in natural lighted rooms and that has never stopped me from going into that different relaxed state of brain activity. The craniosacral therapy does not depend on darkness like sleep usually does. Massage therapy tends to send people to sleep unless it is being brutal so darkness can be preferable. Going to people’s homes usually ensures natural lighting as well, but some of the other amenities are not available and a table is a heavy thing to carry around even with wheels. If the person has a dedicated home spa space that’s pretty awesome but unfortunately that was never included in the white picket fence American dream so it takes foreigners in gated community mansions to find that. Also you can’t guarantee quiet at home unless you live by yourself without any pets. Actually I did go to a house where the dog was incredibly well trained: I had no idea she was even there. Practically nobody trains their animals that well. They are all spoiled and too often anxious and know they can guilt-trip their humans. The other day I was out for a walk at a park where a couple people were having dog training lessons. It was obvious the lessons were for the clueless humans. 5-1 the dogs were more confused after the lesson than before the lesson. All right I have no idea how I got off onto dog training but if I run for mayor I will endorse a campaign like the old spay-neuter campaigns except it will be “Get Dog Training.” When almost half of local households have at least 1 dog, I think this is relevant and crucial. People should get education in pet ownership, particularly in finding the correct breed for their living situation before they get attached to a puppy and make the poor dog, themselves and the neighbors (and the mobile massage therapists) psychotic because the breed needs a completely opposite environment to be sane. People should also get prenuptial education for exactly the same reasons. These things used to be taught in families like somato-emotional regulation, but now here I am filling in for that gap with my craniosacral therapy. $20.10 tips welcome!
